Laura & Schuyler: Colorful and Cohesive

This was one of my favorite weddings I’ve ever designed for. Like ever, ever, ever! I’m so excited to showcase it!

I worked with Laura (the bride and an absolute gem) and her mom who was truly lovely. Her mom even entrusted me with surprises like the guestbook! Their vision was super cohesive and everything truly made sense, while at the same time being absolutely beautiful.

The Venue

Laura and Schulyer’s wedding took place on May 10, 2025 at the Bay Head Yacht Club in Bay Head, New Jersey. This is such a great venue that I’m lucky enough to work with often. It’s a private members only yacht club, but if you find a sponsor, you’re able to have your wedding there.

While Laura and Schulyer currently live in California, they have family that has lived on the water in NJ for a long time (more on this later!). The Dale Building (which is where most couples choose to get married) is stunning, and it’s completely draped with lighting for ceremonies. After the ceremony, the couple hop into a boat, go off into the sunset (basically), and then pull up to the yacht club to meet the rest of their guests to get the party started.

This venue embodied the couple as well as their family’s legacy. It was truly special.

The Vibe

Laura’s vibe was very watercolor AND full of color, which was awesome. I painted every aspect of this wedding, which makes it even cooler! It couldn’t be more bespoke or custom. Her bridesmaids actually wore blues and yellows, so I was so excited when she wanted a bright yellow envelope. I’m obsessed!

Laura wanted everything to be cohesive. So from the very beginning when invitations went out, the tone was set. As we go through the rest of the pieces I designed, you’ll see that everything made sense.

Weddings with this kind of vision make me so happy, because she really entrusted me with it. It was simple, but stunnnning. Invitations that set the stage for everything else to flow together!

The ceremony featured natural materials, rattan, and gorgeous florals highlighting the blues and yellows, tying back to the invitation. So, so gorgeous!

What I Did

Invitations

ree

I painted both the Bay Head Yacht Club and the boat house (Dale Building) specifically for this wedding, so now I have so many awesome options available for other Bay Head Yacht Club brides!

The full yacht club painting became the envelope liner. Did I mention I’m obsessed with the yellow envelopes?! The details card had the Dale Building as well as other watercolor designs I painted.

I also created really fun die cuts: a wavy die cut for the details card and a shell for the RSVP card. This was the first time I had done a shell, and I can’t even tell you how many orders I received from brides once they saw this design that I posted on Instagram. That makes me so happy!

Seating Chart

ree

For the seating chart, Laura again wanted to use natural materials, so I collected driftwood frames and kept the look simple. She asked me to paint a beach painting, which I then used on the top of the beach badges. I even sourced brass beach badge pins that tied everything together. Finishing this was a labor of love, in truly the best way!

Day-of Stationery & Signage

For table numbers, I brought in watercolor with gold frames, which tied in with the brass pins. I chose a gold frame for the signature cocktails sign, and let’s take a second for the photo that shows all three cocktails next to the sign. I LOVE when photographers do that, it’s so freakin’ thoughtful!

We also designed custom napkins. Not a single detail - however “small” it may seem - was overlooked. I created a stunning guestbook with the yacht club painting on the cover, and coordinating watercolor signs in gold frames for cards, gifts, and the guestbook. It was perfection!

Seashells, Matchboxes, and More!

The flowers from the ceremony were brought into the reception. Every single detail was thoughtful. The napkins matched the table runners, every guest had a menu tied with a coordinating linen ribbon, and I created personalized seashells with each guest’s name for their place setting. Unreal. The rentals were incredible. Rattan chargers and beautiful glassware - so good! We even brought the watercolor painting of the entire venue back for the matchbooks.

How {Magnificent} it All Turned Out

Shout out to the awesome vendors I worked with on this one!

Planning: Kasey from The Wedding Plan & Company

Fun fact: Kasey (the planner) had everything so well organized, and she also hired me to paint a picture of the family’s historic Mantoloking home that has been in their family for appx. 100 years. It’s where Laura got ready, where they did their first look, and where the welcome drinks took place. Painting that felt special, and I’m so happy I was a part of it!
